Will the #Fediverse succeed if some group or person with a more business-oriented mindset comes into play? I remember how excited I was as a teenager when I first started using #Linux, with its core ideas, but only geeks really got into it.
The game has changed a lot since #Ubuntu was released more than twenty years ago by #Canonical, led by Mark Shuttleworth. Maybe the Fediverse and all its players, initiatives usually led by geeks, are in a similar state to Linux before Ubuntu.
I'm not saying the big tech social media will disappear or stop being used as the main form of communication by most people. This didn't happen when it comes to the adoption of Windows and Mac OS, either.
But we are not there yet. The Fediverse initiative is still in its infancy, and it's hard to see it as the same reason why people like me were so excited about open knowledge in our twenties or even earlier.

Is there a way to find out why an account or even a server was blocked by the Mastodon server I'm using?
If there's no accountability on such cases, that's an issue.

I tried loading it on Tusky, but there was no response. I searched for the author of the post while logged into my instance but received the message "Account suspended." However, when I access the link directly, I can see the content.

Really missed out on having @news cover the event this year.
Their play by play coverage has always been a staple in my morning after debrief. How am I supposed to follow everything myself? Really makes you realise how valuable WeDistribute is for the Fediverse and whole Social Web.

To put this differently, only a new post (the original post of a thread) should have the option to select privacy levels. Every single reply in a thread or a sub-thread should simply inherit the privacy level of the original post.
This will cut off the abusers’s ability to create pile ups in reply threads that are invisible to everyone bar the victim and the abusers themselves.

When the victim mentions publicly that they are facing harassment, other Fedi users respond saying that they don’t see any abusive replies, and blame the victim for being too sensitive, or for not correctly using the moderation tools.

Basically, an abuser replies with post privacy level set to “followers only” or “mentioned users only”, and tagging only the victim and the abuser’s followers. The followers of the abuser then pile on, with their own abusive replies, all set to “followers only” or “mentioned users only”.
