@floe Are you using the web interface? If so it'll show the quoted post in the composer after you paste an ActivityPub URL. If you're using something else (like a third-party app), it depends on how the quoting function is implemented in the UI there.
In other words, the function that detects quotable URLs in your post is part of the front-end. It doesn't happen for posts that you submit by other means, including directly through the API... or I guess if you click “Post” too fast. 😄
@julian I was using Tusky, which doesn't explicitly implement quotes yet, so that's probably the reason...
@floe Yep. Apparently the version of Tusky with Mastodon quote post support should be out basically any day now, but I haven't tried the beta version so I don't know if they have added the paste -> quote function as well.
@phoerious @floe Several apps do. However, people outside those apps don't see those kinds of quotes, since they're not part of the post's actual data.
